Welcome to HomeSpun Chick

Gratitude overwhelms me as I reflect on the incredible 11-year journey of our family business. I can hardly believe it and have to pinch myself sometimes! Eleven whole years of highs, lows, and everything in between!

Looking back, it feels like riding a rollercoaster, full of twists, turns, and unforgettable moments.  Along every twist and turn, I've come to realize God has always guided me all along the way and brought the right people into my life, writing each chapter as it was always meant to be.

Back in 2007, life took an unexpected turn, casting me as a single mother to three spirited boys. But amidst the challenges, a glimmer of hope emerged when I seized an opportunity to work on a farm for an elderly couple we met at church.

With my boys in tow, we packed our belongings and moved to Buchanan, ND in 2008, embarking on a new chapter infused with faith, family values, and the timeless lessons of farming. As we immersed ourselves in farm life, a deep love for working with animals blossomed, especially with two special goats, Maggie and Lilly, who quickly stole my heart, marking the beginning of our goat herd.

Before we even had time to settle into our new home, we dipped our toes into the world of 4-H, opening doors to new interests, passions, and discoveries for all of us. Witnessing my boys pursue their passions, lend a helping hand as needed, and see each of them earn those ribbons was a proud mama moment.

In 2011, Jayden's goat milk soap project earned him the esteemed title of Reserve Grand Champion – a moment that ignited a spark within me to start crafting my own handcrafted goat milk soap, much to the delight of our family and friends.

In 2012, an exciting opportunity to showcase our products at Gifts from the Heart in Jamestown was accepted and just like that, HomeSpun Chick came to be! Venturing into the world of entrepreneurship was daunting, but with a little courage and a lot of determination, we made it work.

As word spread about our soap and customers asked for more, I found the confidence to expand our offerings, adding scents for every season and even started the process of researching how to create lotion made with goat milk. In February 2015, I embarked on a journey to Bellingham, Washington, eager to learn all I could about lotion making and advanced soap crafting.

With knowledge and confidence, more products have been added along the way with our signature sugar scrubs and very popular lip balms.

Navigating the ups and downs of running a business wasn't easy, but with the help of amazing mentors and a healthy dose of trial and error, we tackled each challenge head-on.

While the boys have since graduated from high school and have started on their own life journeys, their unwavering support for me and the family business we've built together remains constant.

One unexpected turn of events proved to be a tremendous blessing from God – finding love again in the most unexpected way and place. A chance encounter sparked by a magazine article in North Dakota Living Magazine led me to meet Todd, the love of my life. Together, we've propelled our business to new heights, fueled by his unwavering support and love.

As we gear up for our 12th year, I'm filled with excitement for what lies ahead. With faith as our guiding light and loved ones by our side, I know we're ready to take on whatever challenges come our way.

Thank you for allowing me to share our story – it's been an incredible journey, and I wouldn't change a thing! Here's to many more years of adventure and success.
